If the following process is not within your skill set, we recommend taking the vehicle to a certified E-bike specialist or professional cycle mechanic for proper installation.
Tools Needed:
- 5mm Hex Wrench
- 1 Zip Tie
- Zip Tie Cutters
Original Controller Removal Process
- Ensure that the vehicle is turned OFF before performing any work.
- Remove the battery from the vehicle and charge it through the duration of the controller replacement process. This will allow the battery to reset any safety modes the controller may have triggered.
- Locate the rear fender mounting point on top of the downtube, which is directly in front of the rear wheel.
- Remove all four 5mm hex bolts to remove the rear fender and expose the controller location.
- Cut the zip tie that holds the motor cable to the frame and disconnect the cable to the rear wheel motor assembly.
- Gently slide the controller up and out of the frame towards the rear of the vehicle. The controller cables should also be carefully pulled out of the frame just enough to reach all respective connectors.
- Carefully disconnect each wiring connection from the controller.
- TIP: Take a photo of the controller before you disconnect the wiring connections to have a reference point for each connection during installation of the replacement controller. You can also refer to the diagram of controller wiring connections included in the new controller installation steps.
- Once wiring connections have been disconnected, remove the controller and set it aside. Do not dispose of the original controller.
New Controller Installation
TIP: Please make sure to save any packaging materials that came with your new controller. They will be needed at the end of the replacement process.
- Start by connecting all wiring connections from the new controller to the exposed connections from the vehicle. Please refer to the diagram of wiring connections for guidance on connecting the new controller to the vehicle.
- Carefully insert the controller back into the frame with any excess wiring from the controller being set inside the frame channels.
- With the controller set back inside the frame, reinstall the rear fender using the four 5mm hex bolts and your 5mm hex wrench to tighten the bolts in place.
- After re-installing the rear fender, use a zip tie to secure the motor cable back to the frame, ensuring it is clear of any moving parts on the vehicle that could snag the wiring connection. Be sure to remove any excess from the zip tie with your zip tie cutters.
- With the new controller installed, remove the battery from the charger and re-install it on the vehicle. Turn the vehicle on and test for proper operation. If the issue is not resolved, please reach out to SUPER73 support for further guidance on resolution.
