If you are having trouble with your battery, start by ensuring that the charger is functioning correctly. To determine this, we’ll need to know how a charger should function properly.
When a battery is charging the light on the charger should be red, when it's done it'll turn green.
What To Look For
If the charger is exhibiting any of the following behaviors, there is likely an issue with the charger and it should be replaced. It is important to stop any further use of the charger whenever we see these issues reported.
- Flashing red indicator light on the charger
- Charging indicator light is not working
- Charger is getting hot to the touch
- Exposed wiring on the charger cables
- The charger sparked or smells like smoke
Are you Sure?
If the charger is exhibiting any of the following behaviors, there should be further troubleshooting done on the bike to determine if the charger is the root cause:
- Charger indicator light remains green when plugged into the battery of the bike, and the battery is turned on.
- Charger behaves differently while charging the battery when the battery is on the bike vs. off the bike.
- Battery is not charging to 100%.

- If you leave the battery plugged in for too long the charge in the battery may start to dissipate and the charger may activate again and turn from red to green to recharge what was lost. This is completely normal.

- The battery should never be left stored with an empty charge for more than 24 hours. This prevents the battery cells from going into a deep discharge.
- A charger should not be left plugged into the battery for longer than 48 consecutive hours.
- The charger should be unplugged when not in use.
